Why do I have to think about giving a title to everything I write? I don’t even know what I’m going to write about or where I’ll reach with this and the chances are, I might just push you into a void and possibly give you nothing in return for your time.
As I was reading Venkatesh Rao’s Ribbon Farm, it was hard to not take a peek at his Captains Log’s section which he has aptly described as,
’I’m starting a new experiment: blog entries in a blogchain without a declared theme or proper headlines. The blogchain itself is called Captain’s Log, since I don’t want to be too Dada about this, and a Star Trek reference sounds like fun without being thematically confining. But I won’t use that phrase within post titles.’
It made sense to me because no one will probably take a chance at reading this intuitively. It has nothing to do with whether this log will prompt you with something or not. But I’m curious to see where it takes me. Setting the table for the critics — not the first time I’ve done this.
By now, you might be asking a few questions to yourself IF you are an active reader. Then again, I’m typing this out in Notion with zero shame when I’m actively watching the Ghana - Uruguay match on my other laptop screen.
It’s even more interesting and exciting when I realise I’m doing exploratory writing here. Not giving a single fck about what the title or the content needs to be like for the Google bots (for SEO purposes), how it could be perceived for other eyes (yeah, you), it gives me freedom.
