Digital Calories
One of my main kinks in my digital life over the years has been going through many personal websites, exploring other areas of my interests, and going on this thread of follow-ups across the web. So I thought I’d make a repo of how I do this.
the how.
This website is made possible by Blot. I happen to came to know about it a 3-4 years back when I ran into one of the webpage which was made on Blot and I can’t remember which it was (apologies) and I kept the idea of having a personal weblog in the backseat for way too long and wanted to finally push it out or atleast work on it.
There are probably better ways of doing this or better options than Blot which I’m not aware of. But for now I’m sticking with it because of three main reasons:
David Mefield’s motto and values behind blot: Notes - Blot
I always believe in making things simple and lasting. This is a recent writing by Stephen Ango, CEO of Obsidian which puts a smile on my face - File over app
Websites aren’t broken by default. Ref
It just works for me.
For writing I note down where I can but everything will be polished and put together through iA Writer
Open-source options are available as well but none to my liking.
There was a stage when I extensively used Notion but not anymore as I’m slowly drifting away from it, not the same as it used to be. It’s just layer after layer or build on top of a build as it keeps getting stacked with more features and it’s not straightforward as it used to be. As a user from the early days, I’m not proud to see the current state.
My preference these days are Are.na and mymind. I do pay for Are.na.
The FAQ section will give you answers to everything and why I prefer Are.na and why I pay for it.
Information grab, curation, sorting, breaking things down and consuming happens through this triage mainly. I’d also include X/Twitter and Reddit (RIP, Apollo) as I spend a chunk of my time on both.
Note:
I’ll make sure that I update it here if there’s any change in any of them.
I try to not publicize too much about my weblog. I’d rather prefer someone just happen to bump into this page without any prior knowledge. These are for your eyes, your eyes only.
